I like the idea of the once-a-week meal plans and the whiteboard on the fridge. But maybe if I put the meal plans in a notebook first I could refer to them again next year. Sometimes I just run out of creativity.

I find recipes in magazines inspiring, too. Though I don't subscribe to any cooking magazines. The challenge for me is to remember where the recipe is when it's time to actually try it. I do cut some recipes out and put them in a binder under sheet protectors. Other times I procrastinate, and usually I can't find the recipe again. My mother-in-law has many cookbooks and gets magazines, too. I like the magazines with cut-out recipe cards or other convenient ways to access recipes. Like her favorite, with recipes by actual home cooks, tested before printing. Simple and Delicious is a spin-off targeted to busy cooks.

It's easier to copy recipes from the internet to a folder on the computer.

Valerie my love, you are my salvation. This is exactly what I needed to read after my previous post, which I'm sure you know. This is brilliant:

"What is cooking? To me, cooking is the way we transcend meeting the basic needs of our bodies and create foods that do indeed nourish our traditions and our souls as well as our bodies. What is a meal, then? Every meal is an opportunity to use food to express some aspect of ourselves to those we are feeding. Even if that person is you."

I'm printing this out and putting it on my fridge; it's becoming my manifesto for my upcoming cooking adventure.

I really need to get a slow cooker.
