“Progress, and improve upon and make beautiful everything around you. Cultivate the earth, and cultivate your minds. Build cities, adorn your habitations, make gardens, orchards, and vineyards, and render the earth so pleasant that when you look upon your labors you may do so with pleasure, and that angels may delight to come and visit your beautiful locations.”

    -Brigham Young

Discuss. :) Personally, I love the connection between cultivating the earth and cultivating our minds- gets right to the heart of nurturing for me.  And I love that we’re supposed to do these things so that we can look at our labors with pleasure (not stress!) and that our homes can literally be heavens on Earth, with the very angels in attendance.

Hmmm…this reminds me, for some reason, of the Jewish idea that our collective holiness will bring the Messiah. He won’t come into a place of sin, so every time a Jewish person keeps a commandment, he knows he is doing his small part to prepare the Earth for it’s King. Are we creating heaven on Earth? Apparently we can bring the angels. Fascinating :)

That’s a really thought provoking idea, Brandy. My brain is spinning around right now. We are creating, in our homes, holy places; second only, someone said (can’t remember who, but someone important) to the temples. And it says in the last days that temples will dot the Earth- perhaps this also refers to righteous homes? I know it plays into the concept of Zion, and Zion being a refuge – perhaps that’s also because of the angels?
